New York City: pt 2
So this part is dedicated to the few photos I shot on Black, and white. We only ended up getting one day of overcast weather, the rest was glorious sunshine, so I had to take advantage of it and shot almost the whole trip with colour negative. These images are from the first full day after we arrived in the city.
Like I mentioned before, we stayed in China town, and this area ended up becoming my favourite part of the city, for its gritty character, and its old aesthetic, something I think works very well in black & white, and for that I went with the ever popular Ilford hp5 Plus, which was shot at 800 iso.
Some of these pictures you may recognise from my colour images - like the egg truck, where I finished this roll, and swapped to colour. I also returned to the Manhattan Bridge a couple of times to get some images also with colour film, so there unfortunately is some repetition there too. one thing I do really regret, is not shooting more Black and White, especially another couple of rolls on this day, whilst it was overcast.
I absolutely want to get back to NYC in the future, for now all my paid annual leave for 2026 is currently fully booked, so fingers crossed its something I can achieve next year, and if I do I will certainly be taking plenty of monochrome film with me.
I always find myself a little envious of people who live with somewhere like this within such easy reach. I am a countryside person through-and-through, but this is the one city I would consider living in, there is just so much there to see and explore - it just feels like endless photographic opportunities, and its such a huge contrast on my way of life in the UK.
