St bee’s to Patterdale: pt2

*Forenote* - This is the follow up to the first part, which I had written over a year ago, it can be found here

Following our camp the previous night at Ennerdale Water, we woke up on day 2, to a drizzly, cloudy morning in the Lake District. Something not unheard of, and much the same as the previous days weather!

Todays task was to make our way the 10 or so miles into Borrowdale, meaning passing through Ennerdale valley, past Black Sail hut, and over the pass towards Honnister slate mine. We stopped here for some lunch (I had a Egg and sausage bap, and Bo had a Curly sausage) and this helped power us through to our next place to bed down for the night.

We stayed in a campsite in Borrowdale, and I was able to leave my electronics in the church to charge while we chilled out for the afternoon. The good thing about starting these walks early, was being able to finish relatively early and enjoy your spare time to relax. The afternoon was dry and warm, making a change from the previous days downpour!

In the morning was another matter, it rained early on, so yet another wet tent to pack away, had I left 30 minutes earlier, I would have gotten it away before the rain arrived! It soon disappeared but we were left with low lying clouds for much of the day.

Today - day 3, we were making our way to Easedale, with the potential of camping at Grisedale Tarn, which is actually the location of the first place me and Bo had ever wild camped together.

After a nice bit of lunch in Easedale we made our way out of the village headed up the side of Great Rigg towards Grisedale Tarn. A couple of fast moving rain clouds gave us a battering on the way up, and with the forecast of a rough nights weather, I decided to bail on the wild camp at the tarn, in favour of a site down at ground level in Patterdale, marking 17 miles for the day.

It was on the approach into Patterdale I discovered that Bo has damaged the quick on one of her nails, and was bleeding. She wasn’t appearing to be in any discomfort, but I decided that this was where we would end the trip early, we got a hotel room in Patterdale for the night, and the next morning made our way back home…
